Photovoltaic Solar Electricity
What is it?
Photovoltaic solar electricity, otherwise known as PV, is solar electricity generated straight from the sun via solar panels installed on the roof of your home. These panels are made up of photovoltaic (PV) cells which use sunlight to create electricity. In brief, by having PV solar panels installed on your roof by Europlas you will benefit from FREE electricity for your home!
How does it work?
Each PV solar panel is made from semi-conducting material which uses sunlight to create an electric field. The strength of a PV cell is measured in kilowatt peak (kWp), which is the amount of energy the cell generates in direct sunlight. The solar energy is then converted into electricity and fed directly into your home.
How much electricity will I generate?
The amount of solar electricity you will generate depends on the number of panels you have, and the amount of direct sunlight those panels get – the higher the light intensity the more electric you will generate. Solar panels work best on south facing roofs and electricity can still be generated in overcast conditions.
What are the benefits?
- Lower fuel bills - A typical PV system can produce 50% of your electricity requirements
- Tax free income from the government – Sell excess electricity back to the National Grid
- Lower carbon emissions - A typical PV system could save around 1200kg of carbon dioxide per year
- Self sufficiency - Combined with other great energy saving schemes from Europlas you could become energy self sufficient
- Increase the value of your home – By installing this solar panels you are increasing the value of your home and reducing the cost of living
How will you make money?
There will be times when your solar PV system produces more electricity than is needed, for example when you are on holiday or in the summer. During these times excess electricity generated by your PV system is automatically sold back to the National Grid through the Government's 'Feed In Tariff' scheme. The Government will pay you 43.3p per kWh of electricity that you generate and 0.03p per kWh you sell back to the grid.
A typical solar electricity system could save you a total of £957 per year.

Feed in tariff payback calculation
£807 per year from the Generation Tariff
£30 per year from the Export tariff
£120 per year reduction in energy bill
A total saving of £957 per year*
The 43.3p tariff applies to all installations carried out before 31st March 2012. After this date new rates decrease each year for new entrants to the scheme. All tariffs will be linked to the Retail Price Index (RP) and will be held for 25 years.
